I'm a llama!

In my opinion...

HIGH TORQUE - for pick-up (high RPM low SPEED)
HIGH SPEED - for top speed (low RPM high SPEED)

I think that's the answer...Please correct me if I wrong.. Grin

REGARDS

high torque is RPM low but the acceleration in high
and
the relation is between torque & RPM so if rpm high and torque is low

there are good discussions going at R/C Tech's 23T motor thread http://www.rctech.net/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=21233 as well as at STOCK motor forum http://www.rctech.net/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=800 including comments over the mentioned motors. Mind you, some of the stuffs discussed over in stock motor forum are on 27T stocks.

high torque motors - lower RPM, lower top speed and yes, better "pickup"; great for twisty track layouts

high rpm motors - higher rpm, higher top speed and slightly lesser "pickup"; work great for more opened layout (larger tracks, longer straights etc)
high torque and high speed battery wan need 3 Amp up  Wink can go faster
