i) You wrote that you put a 5V fan on your ESC.From what that I know, Novak ESC comes with heat sink. Will that be enough to reduce the heat generated or still need to use fan?
ii) So the extremely high torque is the only advantage of a brushless motor than the brushed one. Then, why it's so expensive compare to a faster brushed motor?

Really appreciate your reply Smiley

1.Need to use a brushless ESC.Brushless are divided into 2,
a.Sensored-so far i only know of the Novak. You have to use the Novak motor AND ESC together.
b.Sensorless-YOu can mix and match between brands. The ESC has to be brushless ESC of course.Make sure the ESC can support the output of the motor(in Watts)

2.For Novak-comes together.Other brands,some together some separately

3.If you have only RM1000,that would mean you can only either buy a brushless setup OR a brushed setup. If you want to race, then you wouldnt be able to buy a brushed setup after that.

4.Of course a 7T motor is faster.No questions.

i) Brushless motor, need to use special ESC or just the regular one?
ii) Usually comes with ESC or sold seperately?
iii) What do you mean by 'and if you have only RM1000 for ESC/Motor,that sucks.'?Is it cost more than RM1k?
iv) You wrote 'With proper gearing it can really challenge the 12T -14T'. How about 7T motor?Which one is faster?

hmm for rock climbing i think it'll work better with very low gearing.
But i dont know what you'll do with all that RPM though.

You might want to check out the HV brushless which is designed to replace 2 motors.and is designed for Monster Trucks.

WWW
hi lee,

somewhere in your review u mentioned the Novak Motor has great torque. Just wondering will it be great for non touring application, i.e monster truck style play.. notfast but going through obstacles??

thanks...

Hello people,
I get a lot of questions from everyone on the novak brushless system,so i think i might as well write a review on it and everyone can later ask/post questions and all the users can try to explain.
I'm using the system with the S5800 motor.
1.How fast is it?
Well, it is very fast. With proper gearing it can really challenge the 12T -14T.If you gear it conservatively, somewhere above 7.0 then u will feel like a 27T stocker.
I must also mention that the torque of the motor is incredible.tyres will spin all the time. Therefore the acceleration is unmatched by any brushed motor you can find.Overall I'd say it offers the same laptimes as a 16T.
note-i've been whooped by a Xenon stock b4.of course, adjustments later,i whooped it back.

2.Performance besides speed
This system is almost flawless. It is extremely smooth. There is no such thing as cogging in it.Credit to Novak for solving all these minor issues before selling.
3.Reliability
However, you will find that it the ESC heats up to very high temperatures during hot days and with tall gearing. Most times at about 5 mins, it will go to thermal shutdown by itself.
-for this problem i encountered in the early days of using it,i have installed a 5V fan on the ESC.There is no more heating problems. It never shutdown anymore. In fact it runs so cool, you won't know that it has been running. This is after about 30-50 runs with the fan.
-There has been cases where the ESC just melts down and total failure occurs.
 2 reasons
1.The user gears it like a 23T stock motor after realising the relative speed is like a 23T stock. No,the lower limit is near 7.0 without cooling.
2.No cooling is used.I've been told that even without a fan, just an airduct/air flow at the ESC is enough. With the fan , i've safely geared it at more lower than 6.0 without problems.I didnt go lower because it was already too fast.

4.Is it worth the money?
Well it depends on how/what you would expect to gain from RM1000 of investment.
1st of all you will not be able to enter most races, and if you have only RM1000 for ESC/Motor,that sucks.
However , bear in mind that this would probably be the last ESC/Motor you will need for a longgg time.
Personally i dont really care for races, as i drive for fun 95% of the time.It suits me to a T since it also offers maintenance free operation all year.Plus,i'm beginning to save on motors since every about 30 packs(10 packs/skim,3 skims) i'd have to change motors.

5.Minor issues
Size:The ESC is HUGE.Be prepared to move a lot of stuff if your car is tight.
Cables:Super long cables, but these are great for belted cars like Xray and TA04.
Size again:The motor is also a little longer than a regular brushed motor.

If there is anything you guys want to know,go ahead and ask.I'll try my best to answer them. The only reason why i write this is because i think it is a great investment, and it solves a lot of issues for some of us.I think this is the best 1000 bucks i've spent in RC.
