Refering to the same wound

1. stand up brush
    more torque,less rpm
normally use for offroad & TC

2. lay down brush
    more rpm, less torque
    normally use for TC
uses more current than stand up brush

On the contrary, my opinion : standup for high rpm (on-road, high rpm, less torque) and laydown for torque (off-road, less rpm, high torque).
But now, it's not always the case like that.

Remember with those Reedy motor ? I used to use Pt or Ti, now since they make Kr, then I use it, too. ALso with Yokomo Zero T-max, there is LR (Laydown RPM) and LT (Laydown Torque).
LR use for tight/sort very technical and LT use for long/speed track.

BUt one thing for sure Laydown or other kind of P-94 brush (Trinity) draws more power so it will make your ESC work hard.

I suggest you stay away from it. If it's available in your area, use the LRP GT-2 Turbo motor. I think it's good for your ESC to go below 16T.

One more thing : higher winding is better than lower winding such as 13T double is better than 13T single if you want to go below your ESC motor turn limit.

Rgds,

if you used lower wound, it will generate more current, thus more load to your ESC.

P.S: if your brake MOSFET burnt you can replace with any other similar MOSFET

Based on your ESC, I suggest you to use machine wound motor with standup brush if you want to go below 16T.

According to my experience. The limit on ea. ESC is the RECOMMENDED turn motor that you should use with your ESC.
It's really depend on the brand also. Well known ESC brands (such Novak, LRP ) have better tolerance up to 2T lower. So if your ESC is limit to 16T then actually it can stand up to 14T. But you have to take notice about the gearing.

The gearing should be 3-4 teeth lower for the pinion than recommend for those motors. Let's say for 15T you should use 15 tooth pinion with 96 spur, now you have to reduce to pinion 12  tooth with 96 spur. The ratio will be high so this will not burden your ESC.  (less top speed but high rpm).

Actually it's not recommended but if you do, then you're at your own risk.

For brands ESC, mostly, it won't get burned if you do as I said above. But don't try for other ESC (unknown brands).

Rgds,

My esc is the lrp sprinter digital. Smiley
